ink blob

hey there i’m zuri-zel. i’m all about diving deep into the wired, with a special love for:

  • 🌐 distributed systems (consensus algos are beautiful)
  • 🎵 audio programming (use machines to make noise… music)
  • 🔧 tinkering with stuff adjacent to embedded systems, graphics, and ai/ml

this blog is my digital playground where I share my latest “aha!” and mostly “oops” moments.

expect a mix of technical jargon, half-baked ideas, and the occasional rant. i update this space as often as inspiration (or caffeine) strikes, so check back whenever you need a dose of tech curiosity.

いきましょう! 🚀

p.s. potential employers: yes, i can write in proper caps. but where’s the fun in that?

samtala: exploring decentralized communication

in the landscape of digital communication, there’s always room for exploration and innovation. i’ve always been curious and always want to learn new things just for the sake of learning, but most of the time those stay just as ideas, readings, and conversations. a lot of just-in-case information waiting to be used. today i’m happy to share the beginning of a project that i’m really excited about that will allow me to put a lot of the just-in-case information i’ve accumulated over the years into something interesting and motivating for me. welcome to samtala, my part-time exploration into the world of decentralized distributed systems. ...

homunculus: path of creation

“this was once revealed to me in a dream” let me start with where this came from, earlier in january(2024-01-18), i woke up, took note of what i was dreaming, and went back to sleep. I repeated this several times. when i was finally awake, i decided to compile all the notes and make them a little cohesive. the result is this, a more or less structured game design doc, some game mechanics a weird storyline (clearly inspired by one of my favourite mangas), and the desire to create it at some point. i’m now making this public to receive feedback and to try and encourage myself to create something tangible out of it. ...

cross-platform computer interface

in today’s world, many of us find ourselves switching between multiple devices that have multiple different operating systems throughout our workday. the constant shift leads to productivity loss and unnecessary cognitive load as we adapt to different interfaces. in this article, i share with you how i approached the creation of a consistent interface between me and the machines i work with(linux and macos), with a focus on consistency. motivation after several years of dealing with rsi(carpal tunnel), the benefits of using the right io devices and a comfortable and consistent way to interface with my machines go far beyond ergonomics. the goal became to create a setup that would feel familiar and comfortable regardless of the os i was currently using, reducing the friction when changing machines and trying to enhance productivity. ...
